Andy Murray has withdrawn from next week’s Rogers Cup in Toronto in order to continue his recovery from hip surgery.
“I’ve played quite a few matches this week in Washington and I need to be smart with my rest and recovery as I come back from injury,” Murray said Friday, according to BBC Sport.
The three-time Rogers Cup champion had a taxing week at the Citi Open in Washington, including playing a quarterfinal match that didn’t end until 3 a.m. ET due to a weather delay.
Murray plans to return at the Cincinnati Masters, which begins August 13.
Currently ranked 832nd, the former world No. 1 will look to tune up in Cincinnati before the US Open, which kicks off August 27.
