Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s big demonetisation step in November 2016 has kept the nation on its toes and big changes on the currency front are happening fast and furious – the announcements about printing of new denomination notes is rapidly increasing. So from Rs 50, Rs 200, Rs 500, Rs 2000 and more, the changes are being announced at a rapid pace. Now it emerges, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is focused on issuing currency notes of smaller denominations too. As per reports, Bank Note Press is printing Rs 200 notes rapidly, and the next in line is the Rs 10 note. It is also being reported that the printing of even Re 1 denomination notes will begin soon, according to Jagran News.

In March this year, the RBI had announced that it will soon issue Rs 10 denomination notes with enhanced security features for circulation. The banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi series-2005 are to carry inset letter ‘L’ on both number panels, bearing the signature of Governor Urjit Patel, as reported by The Indian Express. Last month, the fluorescent blue colour Rs 50 denomination note too was circulated.

Stressing on the need for smaller denomination notes, BNP has again started printing of Rs 10 denomination notes, that was halted earlier, and the stock was later sent to the RBI, quoted Jagran News. Sources also say that BNP has been given the task of printing around ten crore notes of Rs 20 currency note, apart from Rs 500 and Rs 2000 denomination note.
