Want to breastfeed your baby in public but concerned about strange stares or disapproving looks? There is a campaign that aims to improve public acceptance of nursing mums.

In Singapore, breastfeeding your child in public is generally met with nonchalance if you do it under a nursing cover and in a corner with little foot traffic. And with nursing rooms available in almost every shopping mall, letting your baby fill his tummy while out and about may not seem that difficult after all.

But if you have problems with being closeted in a handicapped toilet or if you have a child who refuses to be covered while nursing, Breast-feeding Friends (BFF) Singapore has launched a campaign to educate the public about breastfeeding.

BFF approached local establishments like cafes and restaurants to pledge to their cause to welcome mothers to nurse their babies openly at their premises. So far, over 50 places have joined BFF and they include:

  • 8 Korean BBQ
  • Absolute Acai
  • Afterwit
  • Amazonia Singapore

Reviews from other mums also give you a good idea of what you can expect at these cafes and restaurants, so you have more information on the places before trying them out.
